Seed Starting Mix

A fine textured, sterile mix made specifically for germinating seed rather than growing plants on. Garden soil is far too heavy for the job and carries the fungi behind damping off, the problem that can flatten a whole tray of seedlings overnight. This mix avoids both issues.

The light, even texture lets delicate roots push through without resistance and keeps steady moisture around the seed, which is what germination really depends on. It still drains well enough that trays are not left waterlogged under a humidity dome.

Fill your trays, moisten the mix before sowing, and start feeding with a diluted fertilizer once the first true leaves appear, since a starting mix carries very little nutrition of its own.
